College faculty currently picketing at the corner of Market and Darling would like to thank the many people who have been so kind and supportive as week three of our strike draws to a close. On a daily basis, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of family, friends and complete strangers.
We'd like to thank:
Faculty at Laurier University who brighten our day by checking in and delivering treats. Leveraging a teachable moment, faculty have encouraged their students to interview us about the issues across the college system.
University and college students who visit with us and ask how they can voice their support.
Downtown businesses for surprising us with a lunch, an extra-large thermos of coffee and boxes of doughnuts.
Retired professors and a retired elementary school teacher who walked with us because they remembered what it was like to be on strike.
Representatives from the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario, who stood with us in support.
The woman who gave us $20 to treat ourselves to coffee.
Our families for ensuring we have a steady supply of cookies, coffee and hot chocolate.
People working downtown who stop to talk and learn more about the issues.
The many people who honk their horns and wave in support as they drive by.
To everyone who continues to offer their support, we are truly grateful. Bottom line: no one wants to be on strike. But sometimes the issues are so important that we bring them into the spotlight to generate public attention. We miss our students, and hope to be back in the classroom soon.
